Delete Your Kin Account & Data
Kin, by JouleWorx Private Limited · Last updated: August 6, 2026
This page explains how to request deletion of your Kin account and the personal data associated with it, and what happens when you do.
How to request deletion
In the app (fastest)
- Open Kin and go to Settings.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Confirm when prompted. Your account is deactivated immediately.
Without the app
If you no longer have access to the app, for example if you lost your phone or uninstalled it, you can request deletion by email instead:
- Email hello@jouleworx.com from the email address or with the phone number associated with your Kin account, with the subject line “Delete my Kin account.”
- We'll verify the request is genuinely coming from you.
- We'll deactivate your account and confirm back to you.
How it works: a 30-day window
Deactivation is immediate. Permanent, irreversible erasure of your account and data follows automatically 30 days later.
The moment your deletion request is confirmed, your account is deactivated: you're signed out, no longer discoverable by other users, and the app can't be used with that account. Your data isn't immediately erased at this point. It is held in a deactivated state for 30 days.
If you change your mind, signing back in within those 30 days cancels the deletion and restores your account as it was. After 30 days, an automated process permanently erases the account and its associated data (listed below). This step cannot be undone once it runs.
What gets deleted
Your account
Deactivated immediately on request. Permanently and irreversibly erased 30 days later, unless you sign back in before then to cancel the deletion.
Your Trust Circle relationships
You become unreachable to your connections as soon as your account is deactivated. We don't send them a notification; they'll simply see you're no longer available next time they check. The connection records themselves are erased from our systems 30 days later, along with the rest of your account.
Check-in requests and responses
Deleted or anonymized. Kin's servers never store the actual content of your check-ins in readable form to begin with. Check-in content, including any location you chose to share in a response, is end-to-end encrypted, so our servers only ever hold scrambled, unreadable data, which is purged automatically within 30 days of being sent, independent of account deletion.
Push notification tokens
Removed as part of the 30-day erasure, along with the rest of your account data.
Phone number
Used only for sign-in (via Firebase Authentication) and removed from our authentication provider as part of the 30-day erasure. It is never stored in Kin's own database in the first place.
Your device's contact list
Nothing to delete. Kin only ever reads your contacts locally on your device to find connections; your contact list is never uploaded to or stored on our servers.
What we may retain, and why
We may retain minimal, non-identifying records (such as aggregate, anonymized logs) for a limited period where required for fraud prevention, security, or legal compliance, consistent with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. We do not retain anything that identifies you personally beyond what's described above.
